Filipino student “entralled” by story of Singapore
With the next election looming ahead, the state media has gone on an overdrive to whitewash the mistakes of the PAP and to trumpet its “achievements”, whether they are real or not.
The Straits Times Forum has seen a deluge of letters of late from PAP supporters and sycophants singing praises of the ruling party including some foreigners who should not be allowed to interfere in domestic politics in the first place.
A Filipino student by the name of Russ Allen wrote to the Straits Times Forum today about his “positive” impression of Singapore during his eight-week mechatronics training at Nanyang Polytechnic.
It was not mentioned if his training was sponsored by Singapore taxpayers.
Russ wrote that he was ”enthralled” by the story of Singapore – how it became a “small great country” in Asia. He observed that Singaporeans work hard because they “trust” the government:
“Singaporeans are highly motivated people. They work so hard for their Government because they trust their Government, and maybe because the Government can be trusted. Everything in this city is so organised. People obey the laws here.”
Russ’s rather simplistic and naive views about Singapore is nothing surprising. For foreigners coming from neighboring countries, Singapore is indeed a “paradise” on earth.
It is only after living here for a period of years will they discover the inherent flaws in the country – a one-party totalitarian police state which oppresses the people and denies them their basic human rights and liberties.
While Singapore is serving as a magnet for economic migrants from other countries, the brightest global talents continue to flock to the United States, Canada, Australia, New Zealand and Europe where freedom is respected and safeguarded.
A random Singapore evening
The pictures are from a few weeks back.
Geared with a camera and in quest of ultimately having the great Coffee Bean Vanilla Latte (so says my friend Dip Gajjar), we set out to kill some time at Marina Bay, Singapore.
Managed to click quite a few good photographs some of which you can have a look here.
Proved to be a photography spree that we set out on. And turned out quite well.
Feedback welcome!
